When we have amazing days of listening, teamwork and following our classroom routines we earn stars! Five stars means we've earned our reward. Today we earned some time to put our creativity to work with the help of some sidewalk chalk.

Inventions!
We watched an engaging commercial on a product called 'Slushy Magic'. After seeing it, everyone wanted to buy one! How did the commercial do it?! We made a list of all the creative strategies we noticed. Next we made our very own invention from waffle tacos to homework robots. Groups planned out their commercial with the goal of persuading their classmates to purchase their invention. Once our inventions have come to life we'll be using Adobe Spark to create our commercials!

Thank You Jen Aranyi!

Chrysanthemum
Our Grade 4s and 5s read the picture book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. We discovered this author was sending us a similar message Jesus gives us through his teachings. We talked about the idea of treating others the way we would like to be treated and the importance of celebrating how unique we each are. We created this image to represent our learning through art.

Our Van Gogh Sunflower Paintings
We sketched sunflowers inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's artwork.
Here are our friends working on their own sunflower paintings! We used a technique called impasto. We mixed corn starch into our paints to make them thicker.
Here is our final art piece! We put our knowledge of paragraph writing to work as we explored Vincent Van Gogh's life. We gathered information with the help of a partner and our trusty iPads.

Tanka Poetry
Our Grade 3s brainstormed adjectives, nouns and verbs describing the ways we could change the world. We explored syllables, created Tanka poems and displayed them in tunnel books! Our poems were created after much reflection on the many ways we could learn from the teachings of Jesus and change the world around us in small ways, just like the boy in our read aloud.
