Today one of our Grade 2 and 3 groups realized they could use rows of tiles to figure out the answer to 9x9. We later learned we could call what they made an array. This group went on in search of a shortcut to count all these tiles. They made groups of 10 and used some fantastic skip counting!

Problem of the Day
1s - get a whiteboard! 2s - you're in charge of the marker. 3s - get the eraser and last but not least 4s - you're today's team manager. In today's problem our groups had to find out how they could show data in a Pictograph when each symbol represented two.

Eco Club Shopping on a Budget
This afternoon our Grade 4s and 5s were on the hunt for an economical shopping plan! Our Eco Club was soon going to be planting flowers in support of the Cheerios campaign to "Bring Back The Bees". The class brainstormed stores where we might find our needed supplies, then groups were given the Eco Club's wish list, and they were off to see what they could do with a $60 budget.

Even More Coding with Scratch
We started learning to simply code a pen to draw a shape and slowly but surely gained the skills to solve challenges like creating a program that could add numbers or tell us if a number was even or odd. Today students began creating a Scratch program that would retell fiction stories we have been busy writing. Our focus was ensuring our final product conveyed an introduction, rising action, climax, falling action and lastly a resolution.

Coding!
Today our Grade 4s and 5s went old school! We took coding back to the basics as we took apart an old PC and learned about binary coding. Thank you David Galiffi from AMD for taking the time to help us further explore the world of coding.
